The Power of Listening: How to Understand Your Customers and Drive Innovation with AI

Published about 1 year ago • 1 min read

IT and innovation professionals are key to driving innovation within a large organization, but encounter challenges in understanding the various business units and convincing business heads to adopt innovative solutions. To overcome these challenges, I suggest taking the following steps:

  1. Go on a listening tour of crucial business units and functions: Visiting each business unit and function and asking open-ended questions about their pain points, challenges, and goals can help you understand their needs better.
  2. Ask about their strategic goals: Inquiring about each business unit's long-term objectives can help you develop solutions that align with their vision and provide the most value.
  3. Ask how they will measure success: Understanding each business unit's key business metrics will help you develop solutions that drive tangible results and improve efficiency. Use these key business metrics to craft your proposals. Business heads are way more likely to engage with your innovation projects if they are clear about the benefits to their business.
  4. Use what you’ve learned to brainstorm various AI and analytics use cases: Once you have a clear understanding of their needs and goals, leverage these key business metrics to brainstorm AI and analytics use cases that will excite business unit heads about working with you.

By following these steps, you can overcome the challenges of unfamiliarity with business units and collect the details you’ll need to build a persuasive case for business heads to help you develop, pilot, and adopt innovative solutions that can benefit the organization.

Do you have any other tips or questions on driving innovation at large organizations? Just hit reply.

Regards,

Manny
